‘Come on everyone, time to get started!’ Coffee cups are quickly drained, conversations reluctantly ended, small children drag their adults away from the coffee tables. It’s time to stand in a circle and start the music.
We always start with our Busy Bee song and a well known action song to settle everyone into the session. Then we’ll explore our current theme through finger rhymes, knee bouncing songs, action songs and percussion.
With the percussion instruments everyone gets the same thing, including the adults, so when we tap or shake or jingle we can do it together. The Music Leader might suggest different ways of playing an instrument and the adults can model the movements for their children. This way the group produce some really good sounds and everyone can feel part that success, encouraging those who are nearly there.
Puppets come to focus attention, to explore musical concepts and to sing songs. It might be the caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, the doggy fitness instructor or the noisy rabbit with his hooter but all the children will come to see ‘Who’s inside my box today?’
The session often finishes with a circle dance and our goodbye song.
