Your child's participation
Please do not worry if your child does not want to join in initially. Being in a large group can be unsettling and the songs and actions may not be familiar at first.
Children all respond differently to the music. Many sit quietly through a session and then sing loudly all the way home. Their response is also very much linked to their physical development; for example I would not expect a child to clap in time with the music until he is well over two. If your toddler wants to sit out with you or wander around, please do not force her to stay sitting in the circle. You will probably find that when the music changes pace or the instruments are brought out that you will be able to encourage her to join in again. However, please restrain excessively noisy behaviour and try to keep them within the circle.
Your participation
You are interpreting the music for your child. Don't expect your child to pay attention or do any actions, if you are not! Joining in yourself is also the best way for learning the songs for use at home.
